While the use of Actos in new patients is still permitted in the United States, it is recommended that the drug not be used in patients who currently have bladder cancer and that caution be taken in prescribing the medication to those with a history of bladder cancer. Furthermore, the FDA has required that all Actos medications carry warnings alerting patients of the risk of bladder cancer associated with Actos use.
