A landmark case against Takeda Pharmaceutical Co.’s diabetes drug Actos that caused a California man to be inflicted with terminal bladder cancer saw testimony from an expert witness on Tuesday, March 23.

On December 2011, the plaintiff, 79-year-old Jack Cooper of San Diego, was diagnosed with bladder cancer after taking Actos for more than five years and was given two to eight months to live, according to his attorney.

University of Chicago Medical Center associate professor of surgery and urology Dr. Norm D. Smith testified before a Los Angeles jury, saying that “the most substantial causative factor” for Cooper’s bladder cancer was his prolonged exposure to Actos.

Although the defense argued that several medical records stated that it was Cooper’s continued cigarette smoking, age, and gender that increased his risk for bladder cancer, Cooper’s lawyers dismissed the argument, stating the lack of cancer history in Cooper’s family and that cigarette smoking alone wasn’t enough to explain the cancerous tumor in his bladder.

According to Takeda, Actos was the world’s highly sought after diabetes drug, reaching $4.5 billion sales, and was declared safe and effective by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Takeda Pharmaceutical Co.’s diabetes drug Actos is a Type-2 diabetes medication that has been blamed for countless Americans suffering serious health problems and side effects after prolonged use. If you took Actos and have developed bladder cancer as a result, discover if you are owed financial compensation from the negligent manufacturer by calling 800-641-9810. The legal team at Williams Kherkher may be able to help you through this difficult time.

Actos, the popular diabetes medication which was first released in the United States in the late 1990s, has become the subject of many different lawsuits in recent years, with the first trial relating to the drug’s side effects about to begin in California. The plaintiff, Jack Cooper, who was diagnosed with bladder cancer is 2011, has sued the manufacturers of Actos, Takeda Pharmaceutical Company, for damages sustained as a result of his use of the medication.

According to some sources, the discovery period of the trial process turned up documents indicating that Takeda was aware of potential health dangers relating to the use of Actos as early as 2003, but chose not to place warning labels on its products due to sales considerations. If true, this would substantially bolster the claims of Mr. Cooper and the thousands of other individuals who have filed suits for injuries and health problems sustained from using Actos.

Unfortunately, Actos has caused numerous Americans to suffer serious health problems and side effects after they used the drug. Because Takeda was responsible for ensuring that the product was relatively safe to use and that consumers were warned of any potential issues that could result from using the drug, the manufacturer may be held liable for the repercussions these innocent parties have sustained. Speak with a lawyer from Williams Kherkher about your legal options by calling 800-641-9810.

After studying 2 million+ women, Caroline E. Weibull, MSc and colleagues discovered that there may be a link between bladder cancer and having children.

Weibull and colleagues found that women who had children of their own were less likely to develop bladder cancer than women who had never had any children. These researchers also found that women who had only one child had higher rates of bladder cancer than those with two children and that women with two children had higher rates of the cancer than women with three children. Additionally, the study also found that women who had their children after the age of 19 were less likely to have bladder cancer than those who had them prior to turning 20.

Unfortunately, Actos, a Type 2 diabetes drug, has been found to also cause bladder cancer. If you have suffered from this disease as a result of the use of Actos, speak with an Actos lawsuit lawyer of Williams Kherkher by calling 800-641-9810.

Researchers from Spain’s National Cancer Research Center have discovered what they believe to be a relationship between bladder cancer and vitamin D. Their research indicates that high levels of vitamin D can lead to a decreased risk of bladder cancer while a deficiency in the vitamin can actually increase a person’ s risk of the disease.

The researchers took blood samples from more than 2,000 people, some living with bladder cancer and some without. They measured the concentration of 25(OH)D3, a form of vitamin D that is stable in blood, in the samples and found that the people who had the most vitamin D were also the ones who were least at risk for bladder cancer.

Vitamin D can be found in many foods and is actually produced by the body when it exposed to sunlight.

Aside from a vitamin D deficiency, factors that can increase a person’s risk of developing bladder cancer include smoking and the diabetes drug Actos. If you have taken Actos as directed and developed bladder cancer, the two might be related. Contact the Actos lawsuit lawyers of Williams Kherkher at 800-641-9810 to learn more about how an attorney may be able to help you seek compensation for your medical costs.

A New Jersey woman has allegedly faked bladder cancer, scamming friends and relatives out of more than $10,000. She is now being charged with theft by deception.

Last February, the woman told her friends and family that she had Stage III bladder cancer and would be beginning chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Two months later, she claimed it had grown to a Stage IV cancer.

People began to lend her their support when she said she didn’t have medical insurance, bringing her meals and even paying for her wedding. She was turned in by her sister, who became suspicious after her prognosis changed from “a few months to live” to “miraculously cured” and was arrested earlier this week.

When people pretend to suffer from horrible diseases, it greatly hurts those who are selfless and put forth their time and money to help. Having support when actually facing cancer can be invaluable. If you have taken Actos and been diagnosed with bladder cancer, you will likely need help paying for your treatment. Contact an Actos attorney of Williams Kherkher at 800-641-9810 to learn more about how an experienced Actos attorney can help you secure compensation for your bladder cancer treatments.

The group asks customers to avoid Actos and its generics unless other treatments have failed them, citing the drug’s dangerous side effects, which include increased risk of heart failure and bladder cancer.

The first federal trial for people who have developed bladder cancer as a result of taking Actos is scheduled for November of 2014.

The trial is set to start so far in the future in part due to the sheer number of suits, and in part to give attorneys time to choose the best cases to take to trial. Additionally, this allows for more people to file suit against Takeda Pharmaceuticals, the company who manufactured Actos.

Attorneys for both sides of the case will have until June 3, 2013 to choose the cases they will potentially take to trial and reach final decisions by October 16th of that year.

Actos is a Type-2 diabetes medication that has been strongly linked to instances of bladder cancer in people who took it as directed, especially for a year or longer. If you took Actos and have developed bladder cancer, contact the Actos lawsuit attorneys of Williams Kherkher at 800-641-9810.

The study, published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, was conducted via meta-analysis, meaning it sought patterns in data compiled by numerous other studies. The study examined the relationship between diabetes medications known as thiazolidinediones and bladder cancer.

It explored data from 10 different studies that included more than 2.5 million patients. It concluded that Actos increased the risk of bladder cancer by 22 percent.

Actos has been linked to many dangerous conditions. If you or someone you care for has taken Actos and been diagnosed with bladder cancer, you may be eligible for compensation from the drug’s manufacturer.

A combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy have found success in treating advanced bladder cancer during a small clinical trial held at Essex County Hospital in Cholchester, England.

Between August 2001 and April 2008, the study examined 35 patients who were suffering from advanced bladder cancer. Doctors found that combining the treatments showed similar results to cystectomy, or bladder removal surgery. This is groundbreaking for older patients who may not be able to survive such an invasive surgery.

The findings, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, shows that combining the two therapies can significantly improve five-year survival rates over using radiotherapy alone. Patients who received only radiotherapy had a 35% survival rate. Using both treatments together, patients’ chances of survival improved to 48%.

A new Actos lawsuit has been filed in a district court in New York.

The lawsuit adds to the great deal of claims surfacing in the wake of the now-established link between Actos and its serious side effects. Actos has been shown to increase a patient’s risk of bladder cancer by more than 80%.

This particular lawsuit follows the same pattern of allegations as similar suits. It alleges that Actos’ manufacturer, Takeda Pharmaceuticals, did not warn doctors or patients of the severe health risks of taking the drug. The company publicly refused any knowledge of these risks, while internal correspondence shows that the company was seemingly well aware of them.

There are many bladder cancer surgeries that vary in invasiveness as well as effectiveness. If you have taken Actos and developed bladder cancer, contact the Actos lawsuit attorneys of Williams Kherkher at 800-641-9810.
