Diabetic contestants on weight loss television program “The Biggest Loser” found that after losing weight, they stopped needing their diabetes medication.
After a few weeks of intense exercise, one contestant went from taking six daily insulin injections and several prescription medications to not needing any of it. The show’s medical adviser found that all indications of diabetes and pre-diabetes in the contestants were gone by the fifth week of competition.
After the show, the contestants are told to exercise for at least 90 minutes every day for the rest of their lives to maintain their health.
While living a healthy lifestyle reduces your risk for diabetes, it may not always enough. Actos, a diabetes medication, has been linked to an increased risk for developing bladder cancer.
