A judge in Louisiana has now scheduled the first hearing against the makers of the Type 2 diabetes medication, Actos.
The initial court hearing is for the group of lawsuits that claim that the use of Actos caused an increased risk of bladder cancer. Plaintiffs are expected to file thousands of lawsuits against the pharmaceutical company and other related companies for the serious health issues that are associated with the long term use of the medication.
In 201o, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration placed a warning label on Actos bottles in order to display this increased risk. Takeda Pharmaceuticals also halted sales on the drug in France and Germany. The first lawsuit against the drug maker was filed in July 2011.
