Three Illinois couples have filed Actos lawsuits against the drugmaker, Takeda Pharmaceutical Company. The lawsuits claims that the company knew of side effects associated with the drug and failed to warn patients.
According to the lawsuit, the three men stated that they took Actos everyday in in order to treat their type 2 diabetes and that they were unaware that the medication was linked to the increased risk of developing bladder cancer until they had taken it for multiple years.
The complaint shows that all three men have been diagnosed with bladder cancer after taking the medication. The lawsuit states multiple different studies that have been done showing that people who use the drug for longer than 12 months have an increased risk of developing bladder cancer. In June 2011, the Food and Drug Administration made an announcement that stated this and added the information to the drug’s warning label.
