The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that the use of the popular diabetes medication, Actos, for over a year can increase the patient’s risk of developing bladder cancer.
The FDA also stated that the Medication Guide for the drug will now be including this information, but for many, this information has come too late. Dozens of lawsuits have already been filed against the makers of Actos, Takeda Pharmaceuticals, that claim that the drug maker did not properly research this drug for all potential side effects before releasing it.
Some lawsuits state that Takeda Pharmaceuticals, along with Eli Lilly, were aware of the potential risks associated with the medication as early as 2005 and they did not warn consumers.
