The Food and Drug Administration has announced that the popular diabetes drug, Actos, has been linked to an increased risk of bladder cancer.
Takeda Pharmaceuticals is now facing a class action lawsuit from patients who claim that they failed to warn them of the possible health risks associated with it. Since 2006, Takeda has been the only marketer of the drug.
Actos works to level the blood sugar for people who suffer from type 2 diabetes. The FDA released a 10-year study that showed the link between the drug and an increased risk of bladder cancer and they are advising doctors to warn patients of the possible risks. Actos has already been banned in Germany and France.
